Writing - not as easy as it looks

Published by kchance at 11:20 am under Writing Edit This

I have written poems, short stories and essays since I was in my teens but always just as a means of self expression. It never occurred to me that this might be a profitable venture as well as a much needed outlet for sharing feelings and experiences. Writing is easy as long as no one will be reading it. It is quite a different story when you are writing for an audience. Even a simple blog can cause stress. It is natural to be afraid that you will say something that will make you look silly and embarass yourself. I encourage anyone who has a passion to write to DO IT ANYWAY! It gets easier and you will find that most people are reading because they are interested in what you have to say. Most aren’t looking for a mistake or for something to criticize. While it is hard to put yourself out there, whether by writing, acting, speaking in public or any other difficult endeavor, I have found writing to be one of the most rewarding activities in my life. It has enabled me to become someone else, see things from another’s perspective, investigate and utilize critical thinking skills. This changes how you view everything that happens. Learn to laugh at yourself. When you read something you have written that you aren’t happy with, it gives you the opportunity to grow and find more effective means of expression. I’m certainly not suggesting that writing is not a serious art, only that the most important thing is working up the courage to actually begin.

You have the perfect outlook on writing. You have to get it out there and people will read. They may not always agree with you but that just makes it more exciting. I enjoyed your post.
